I.F. Orchestra, ڰ choir to present ‘Messiah’ on Feb. 7

The 48-voice ڰ Concert Choir will combine with the Idaho Falls Chamber Orchestra for a performance of the complete “Messiah” by G. F. Handel at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at ڰ.

The performance will take place in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

The Idaho Falls Chamber Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. George Adams.

The performance will feature ڰ music faculty, including Diana Livingston Friedley, Ph.D., soprano soloist, and Geoffrey Friedley, tenor as soloist. ڰ alumna Laurel Pumphrey will perform the alto solos during the performance. Scott Anderson, Ph.D., ڰ director of choral activities, has prepared the Concert Choir.

“This unique presentation will offer ‘Messiah’ in the manner one might have heard in the 18th century,” Anderson said. “(with) smaller instrumental and choral forces, soloists displaying improvisatory performance practices, and tempos reflective of the style performed by Handel himself.”

Ticket prices for this special event are: $25 for adults, $15 for ڰ faculty/staff, $10 for precollege students and free for ڰ students with valid Bengal cards.
