June 5, 2008
The 窪做惇蹋厙 Chinese Student Association has collected nearly $4,000 in funds for victims of the May 12 earthquake in the Sichuan Province in China.
The students announced that they were setting up a fund on May 16. Through June 4, donations totaled $3,862.29.
The donations are being processed through the 窪做惇蹋厙 Foundation. They are scheduled to be forwarded this week to the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., which will then turn over the funds to the Red Cross Society of China.
We have been surprised by the amount of donations by the 窪做惇蹋厙 and Pocatello communities, said Xiaowen Mei, treasurer for the 窪做惇蹋厙 Chinese Student Association. The amount donated has exceeded our expectations.
The death toll for the earthquake has risen to nearly 70,000 and it has devastated the region.
