ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø to host immigration rights attorney Melanie Gleason on April 19 for variety of events

POCATELLO — Melanie Gleason, an immigration rights attorney, will make several presentations at ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø on April 19 on the theme of “From Concern to Advocacy: The Human Face of Immigration Law.”
Gleason is a longtime advocate for social justice and will make an all-day appearance at ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø to discuss a variety topics, including law as a profession and work as a cause lawyer. A schedule of events is listed below.
Gleason, born to a Thai immigrant and an inner-city Clevelander, has been devoted to social justice with a particular interest in immigration law from a young age.
She studied political communication in her undergraduate studies, and after graduating, worked in a variety of careers, including special education teaching at a middle school, that helped her develop the interpersonal skills necessary to pursue her passion of law advocacy. With her first-hand experience of some social issues plaguing the nation today, Gleason hopes to raise awareness of each individual’s potential to enact change.
Her presentations are sponsored by the ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Diversity Resource Center, ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Department of Political Science and the Idaho Humanities Council.

11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.: Discussion on Law School and the Legal Profession as a Biracial Woman

1 – 2:15 p.m.: Discussion on Working as a Cause Lawyer
Location: Rendezvous Complex, Room 118
4 – 5 p.m.: Coffee with Melanie: Open to any Pre-Law Students
Location: The College Market, 604 S. Eighth Ave., Pocatello
7:30 – 9 p.m.: Present to the University and Community
Location: Middle and South Fork Rooms of the Pond Student Union
