Health Science Experience Night Set for October 18 at Meridian
October 17, 2022
In an effort to encourage 13-17-year-olds to begin thinking about careers in health care, high school and college students from around the Treasure Valley and beyond are invited to 窪做惇蹋厙s Meridian campus to learn about dozens of health professions programs, tour the campus, and get a flu shot at Health Science Experience Night, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 5-7:30 p.m.
Health Science Experience Night is a wonderful opportunity for Treasure Valley students to see the many health professions that 窪做惇蹋厙 has to offer. They experience firsthand what professionals do in the field each day, said 窪做惇蹋厙-Meridian Enrollment Services Director Ali Crane.
Attendees can visit with 窪做惇蹋厙 faculty and students from Meridian and Pocatello, participate in interactive demonstrations, and tour the state-of-the art Skaggs Treasure Valley Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories, equipped with 3D and virtual technology.
We know there is a shortage of health care workers nationwide, and particularly here in Idaho, said Rex Force, vice president for health sciences and senior vice provost at 窪做惇蹋厙. This event gives students an early, hands-on look at what its like to work in these careers, and shows them how they can be part of something bigger than themselves by helping other people in meaningful ways.
Students and their parents can engage with academic program representatives from nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, speech-language pathology, counseling, medical laboratory science, homeland security and emergency management, and many more experts from Idaho's leader in health sciences education. Advanced learning technologies through hands-on activities include:
- Explore career and education pathways
- Visit with faculty members & students
- Participate in medical demonstrations
- Experience human patient simulation
- View demonstrations in the Treasure Valley Anatomy & Physiology Virtual Laboratory (all ages welcome)
- Observe presentations in the Treasure Valley Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory for those ages 16 and older only. Written parental consent is required for minors (those under 18). Please view and print the Consent Form found on the ().
The event will be held inside the Sam and Aline Skaggs Health Science Center at 窪做惇蹋厙- Meridian, 1311 E. Central Drive.
