New Box Features Now Available

April 20, 2026

Two new Box features have been added as part of the Box Governance project.

The first is , which applies security classifications to all Box data. These classifications–Public, Institutional, and Critical–will better protect sensitive Box data, aligning with established ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø and federal policies.

Box users are encouraged to individually apply the appropriate classification to their Box data. After August 10, any unclassified Box data will be given the Institutional classification by default. However, data owners can easily change classifications for their files at any time.

The second new feature is , which prevents protected Box data from being deleted until the designated retention period has expired. While available for all Box users, its use is optional, and we anticipate its primary appeal will be for those in areas with established data retention policies, such as ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø’s health clinics,or the HR, Finance, and General Counsel offices.

A demonstration of these features has been scheduled for April 23, 2 p.m.  that Zoom session, which will be recorded and available for future use.

Those with additional questions can contact Noah Breneman at noahbreneman@isu.edu.  We can also schedule a demonstration specific to your area, if that is of interest.

The IT Service Desk is also available to help with any additional questions or concerns: 208-282-4357 or help@isu.edu.
