Brief Description
This demo consists of a slanted wood block with a hole in it and an empty soda bottle. When the block is placed flat on its short edge it falls over unless the soda bottle is placed in the hole. This moves the center of mass above the short edge of the block so the two will balance.
Materials
Wood block with hole and soda bottle.
Performing the Demo
Place the wooden block on its short edge and then rest the top of the bottle in the hole so that the system is balanced. It might take a bit of adjusting the bottle to get the center of mass in the right spot.
