Woodpecker on a Pole

PIRA 1M30.30

Brief Description

This is a demonstration of how energy can be lost. A woodpecker is attached to a pole by a spring and can slide freely up and down it. When the woodpecker is released from the top of the pole, it will lose energy to friction and the pecking motion, and thus fall slowly. There is also a free weight attached to the pole with no woodpecker.
