POCATELLO – People throw a lot of strange stuff in the Portneuf River – stolen bikes, carpets, a bowling ball, an umbrella, yard waste, cell phones, weird dolls, metal grates, trash of all kinds and hundreds, if not thousands, of plastic bags – and a lot, lot more.

POCATELLO – ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø biological sciences master’s student Paige Miller has continued ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø research of Southeast Idaho Trumpeter Swans this summer by using remote cameras and placing tiny thermometers inside of empty egg shells.

POCATELLO – This summer, a record 66 ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø undergraduate students delivered posters and another 23 non-student ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø personnel registered and attended the Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research.

Saharan paleontology study reveals extremes of science research for ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø’s Leif Tapanila

POCATELLO – Leif Tapanila, ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø geosciences professor and director of the Idaho Museum of Natural History, is a co-author on a scientific paper published this summer in the Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History that describes the Trans-Saharan Seaway in Mali, Africa, and the strange creatures that existed there 50 to 100 million years ago.

POCATELLO – Of the seven new species of prehistoric Idaho creatures ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Department of Geosciences affiliate researcher L.J. Krumenacker was able to help document and name in scientific journals that were published this month, his favorite is Cimolodon akersteni, named after his former advisor and paleontological mentor Bill Akersten, who retired from ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø about a decade ago.

POCATELLO – Film producer Jennie Sue Weltner and ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø researcher Phil Homan said they are thrilled that the documentary “Taking the Reins,” which includes information on “Idaho’s Horse Queen” Kittie Wilkins, has won a regional Emmy Award.
