Research Security is crucial for protecting the integrity, value, and safety of scientific research. Protecting scientific research prevents intellectual property theft and threats to national security.

Core elements of an effective research security framework include research security training, cybersecurity, foreign travel security, and export controls training.

Multiple federal agencies either have a requirement for research security training or are expected to have a research security training requirement in the near future.

DOD has had a risk based research security review process since 2023 that requires training as a mitigation measure.
DOE - effective May 1, 2025
USDA - effective July 8, 2025
NIH - effective October 1, 2025
NSF - effective October 10, 2025
